The Lotus Set
As I have been on my spiritual journey, the Lotus flower is a symbol that has become very important to me.
In many spiritual traditions, Lotuses are often used as a symbol for the cycle of life, overcoming obstacles, and the path toward enlightenment. Lotus flowers are rooted at the bottom of murky muddy waters and grow toward the light at the surface to finally unveil their famously beautiful blooms. It is said you cannot have the blossom without the journey through the mud and what a powerful metaphor it is for the beauty of gaining wisdom through hardship.
Lotus flowers are known for their stunning blossoms which unfold slowly, one petal at a time with their faces toward the sun. Their petals are stunningly geometric and it is their striking geometry that inspired this design.
The Lotus Top
The Lotus Top was one of my first top designs. I wish I could remember the details of making it for the first time but it was during a time when I had first begun designing and was at the peak of struggling with anxiety. To be completely honest, I always thought the design was a bit unpolished and I hadn’t given it much thought.
However, the universe had different plans for me as I began to receive daily requests for this elusive top which was paired with my Angel Skirt in its debut photo.
I decided to refine the design and release the pattern after finally taking the not-so-subtle hint that people wanted to make it. My favorite part of the design is the stacked lace on the bodice
The Lotus Skirt
Just like the slow unfolding of the Lotus’ petals, this skirt design came very slowly as I had to completely unravel it a few times. I wanted the lace to open up in a flow with the body and decided to write the pattern as a recipe so that each maker could easily make the perfect fit.
After re-designing the top, It occurred to me that I had a skirt design sitting in the corner of my mind that would pair perfectly with this top and emulated the geometry in a Lotus flower as well.
I had an existing skirt design that was super cute but felt a little young. I knew that if I modified the lace and made the skirt longer, it would be a beautiful and elegant design.
The bottom portion of the lace features large “petals” which are layered behind one another to create the same mandala-like geometry of Lotus flowers.
I am so thrilled to have had Joyce Lam model the Lotus Set. Joyce walked a runway for me during LA Fashion Week and I have been dying to work with her again ever since. Not only is Joyce a beautiful model but she also has a beautiful heart. She founded a non-profit called Kaimore which financially empowers marginalized communities through workforce development. Their mission is to break down barriers to economic mobility.
I am so thrilled to be offering this design to my custom bridal clients as well as making the pattern available. The Lotus skirt is currently in testing and will be available soon…
I could not have been more thankful for the incredible team of testers who came together to bring Lotus to life. Each one brought so much great energy and encouragement to one another in the group and they all look STUNNING in their sets!
I would be remiss not to thank a very important part of my team, Melissa Metzbower Thompsen who does my pattern grading and tech editing. Mel (as I like to call her) is a godsend who puts her math brain together with mine to make sure each pattern is easy to follow and most important, flattering to each size. It is intrinsic to my brand that every body type be celebrated and complemented through my designs and Mel is a huge part of that. Thank you, Mel!
