Yarns on the Runway!

I had the opportunity to showcase my new collection for LA Swim Week and it was a dream come true!

I have discovered some new favorite yarn to work with as I made this collection and I am here to tell you all about the fibers that rocked the runway!

FLASH IT YARN!

I created these two dresses with one of my new favorites: FLASH IT yarn from Hobbi. This yarn is so beautiful and has a serious sparkle factor. Metallic threads are woven into the vibrant colors making everything POP. Both of these looks were created as part of a Hobbi design challenge and I am so happy I participated! I created the Esperanza Dress while in Cuba this past March using Samia Yarn by WeCrochet. It is a Cupro and Mulberry Silk blend and the sheen is just beautiful. I used the colorway Mangrove but there are some really lovely color options that I can’t wait to explore! This blend has all the strength I love about cotton with an extra softness to the touch.

I have become a little obsessed with creating my own fabrics using a combination of threads and this collection has a secret sauce that has been the key to making these delicate and sparkly dresses. I used Mercerized cotton threads with metallic threads to create most of my looks. I have linked two of my favorites below: Aunt Lydia’s Mercerized Cotton and metallic threads by Hobbi. Party Deluxe metallic thread has tiny sequins woven in to amp up the sparkle and Glitter Deluxe is a perfect thread to weave into any fiber to give it a metallic sheen. I experimented with holding two or more of these threads together to make sure I got the right balance of colors.

I would be remiss not to mention the stunning yarn that carried the design of this dress. Sultan Deluxe Cotton in Rainbow Jewel moves seamlessly through the bright color spectrum. I used one ball to create the skirt of this dress and what a powerful statement it made.
