The Halo Dress is a stunning and unique dress that is built on a ring with an ornate beaded waist belt and long mermaid-style skirt. The body contouring silhouette hugs in all the right places, and the skirt opens up into a beautiful lace.

This dress is for the siren soul who wants to have a fashion-forward making experience.

Halo is completely customizable to fit your body and style.

I am so thrilled to be releasing my Halo Dress Design. This dress is unlike any other because of its very unique elements. She is made centered on a metal ring and an ornate beaded belt adorns the waist.

Halo is completely customizable to fit your body and the pattern will explain how to achieve the perfect fit for each section. Of course, the length of the skirt is completely up to your style preference. Make her mini or maxi depending on your mood!

I'm so excited to release a pattern with beading for the first time! I can't wait to show you my process for how to add beading to garments and make the Halo Dress fit your vibe.

One of the most stunning elements of the Halo Dress is the beaded waist belt. The Belt is made of two tiers of beaded lace that drape over the waist. The pattern requires 2 sized beads--one large, one small. Of course, you can use as many varieties as your heart can dream of.

Styling + Customization Options

Each section of the pattern will explain how to achieve your perfect fit.

The top can be adjusted for different levels of coverage and the V-section connecting to the skirt can be as short or long as you like!

The lace bottom and slit are an optional way to spice up your dress. You can stop making the dress before adding the skirt lace to have a cute mini dress or make the train long and dramatic! Whether you want it to be a mini dress or a floor-length dress, the Halo Dress can be made for your style!

Yarn:

For the Halo Dress, I recommend using either cotton, bamboo or viscose yarn. I used Sugar Cane by Circulo Yarn for two of my dresses.

Ring:

The Halo Dress starts with a ring in the center, this is where you begin your journey where unlimited customization and color options await. You can grab a pack of 10 O rings here to make as many dresses as you can dream of.

Beads:

Sea shells pair perfectly with the mermaid-style skirt making this the ultimate gown for the siren soul. For my first Halo Dress, I thought this pairing of spiral and crowie shells was PERFECT. I used these shell coins in my second Halo Dress, which I thought were a great way to bring in the iridescent scales of a mermaid's tail.

I also love these cute glass beads. They are a fun pop of color and sparkle for any color pallet!

Recommendations for Undergarments:

We love a nude booty short or skirt slip under this dress. Get as cheeky or covered as you want, babe! Find undies that feel good for you! Wether you want to blend with your skin tone or pop from underneath, this is a chance to play with your personal style!

Cakes Covers reusable nipple/breast covers come in three skin shades and three different sizes of coverage. They are a great option for under the top!

The Testing Team

The Halo Dress would not have been brought to life without my AMAZING testing team. Each one of these talented makers made a gorgeous dress to fit their body & style.

Take a closer look at their yarn selections and styling inspiration!

Paulina Smith

Yarn Selection: 1,300m of Local hand-dyed sugar cane yarn.

Measurements: A cup. Bust: 31", hip 32", height 5'2".

Paulina is a very wise woman and chose a yarn color that matched a beautiful pair of green shoes and statement jewelry that she owned. A cutout dress isn’t something she would usually go for but she feels stylish and sexy in her dress. Underneath she wore an adhesive bra and a nude slip and everything looks perfectly seamless.

Paulina’s tip: Choose your yarn wisely and make your ties before finishing the skirt! This helped her get the perfect fit.

Stella Alexandra

Yarn Selection: 8 skeins of Lion brand 24/7cotton yarn.

Measurments: 36 D, hips 46”, waist 26”.

Stella is heavily inspired by the ocean, so the light blue and white along with the movement of the body made her think of ocean waves and the sea foam created. For the beading she used Sodalite, Blue Aventurine, and blue and white Czech glass beads around the cups. She also used druzy grayish crystals on the waist adornments. The necklaces is handmade by Stella and features elements of shells and butterflies.

Stella’s Tip: Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn has a great weight to create a beautiful drape.

Kit Yin

Yarn Selection : 1085 yards of Lion brand Truboo (100% rayon)

Measurements: Cup size: A, Height 5’2”, Hips 83 cm.

Kit hails from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and she is an island queen DREAM in her sea foam dress. Her husband chose the dress color and he is very pleased with himself, as he should be!

She paired her dress with pink wooden beads that pop perfectly next to the green. She wore nude shorts for this look but would also recommend a nude skirt slip.

She feels like a mermaid goddess in this dress loves how it fits in all the right places!

Kate Hammit

Measurements: 36B Bust, Height 5’2”, Hips 39”.

Yarn: 1844 yds of Originally Lovely Pima (DK weight, 100% Pima cotton, Powder colorway)

Kate is not only a great tester but she always delivers glamorous looks and beautiful photos. These moody shots are straight out of an editorial magazine and I am LIVING for it!

Her stash inspired her fiber & bead choices! Can you believe she actually use supplies she’s been keeping for the perfect project?! Her favorite part of the dress is how the seam follows the slit of the skirt and the fabric that the dc2tog stitch creates. Getting to use all the different tools & techniques elevated the experience & finished look of the dress as well. She wore a skirt slip & pasties as undergarments.

Giovanna Horning

Yarn Selection: 1,282 yds Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima in color 3771 “Paprika”

Measurements: Cup: 34/36 B, Hip 39”, Waist: 28”, Height: 5’4”.

Giovanna chose small agate and large crystal beads to adorn her dress. She was going for a boho princess look so she wore the tiara style headband, some vintage leather clogs, and her favorite brass arm cuff. She’s excited to style this different ways and wants to pair the dress with a hat and strappy sandals for another cool casual look.

For her undergarments she wore Maidenform lace shorts and highly recommends them for any dress! For the top, she used Cakes Covers reusable nipple/breast covers. You can thank her for our stoppable links in the styling section!

Madison Roy

Yarn Selection: 1008 grams of  Yarn Bee Spinesse Weight 3 (75% Viscose, 25% Polyester) doubled up.
Measurements: D cup, 41" around my hips, 5'9" tall

A few rows from finishing the dress she decided she wanted to do a gradient from blue to black, so she had to frog back 30 rows and redo it so she could add the color changes she wanted! It was so worth it! she was going for a mermaid vibe and wanted to use deep blues and turquoise for the yarn and beads. She used really beautiful turquoise beads in different shades and sizes.

For undergarments, she uses nude pasties and cheeky black panties but said she would opt for a skirt slip for a more PG vibe if needed.

Carla Melissa

Yarn Selection: 1,230 yards of Premier Yarns Anti Pilling - Everyday Dk in Black.

Measurements: D Cup, Hips 36.5”, Height 5’1.

She chose to go with black and crystal beads because she usually wears black. She wanted to do a witchy mermaid look and to be able to wear her dress at beach or for a dressy night out. She absolutely loves the lace pineapple look and feels the beads tie everything In very nicely.

She sewed inserts into the cups and wore a skirt slip for the bottom part and looked everything looked seem less!

Carla’s Mini Me!

I know, you were not ready for this cuteness overload. Carla’s daughter saw mommy in the Halo Dress and wanted one of her own! I must say that she is WORKING IT! Seeing the smile on her little face brings me so much joy as a designer. That happiness and confidence is what it is all about!

This little queen is proof that you can make this dress to fit any size no matter how big or mini!

Carls used 2.5 skeins of Lion Brand Coboo in Lilac.

Measurements: 44 inches tall. You go, girl!
